Manu Dibango’s rhythm section star in this 100% live session recorded in both Paris and the Faze Action studio, London! From Reel People, Hannah Kemoh features on vocals plus a brass section of Max Grunhard and Scott Baylis from Impossible Ark Records.
Kevin Beadle has repeatedly played “Le Groove de Prune” on Solar Radio and also getting plays on the Craig Charles Soul & Funk Show on BBC 6 Music! “Jobu” is getting radio play from Adrian Leach and Mark Taylor on the Happy Jazz show.
On the HERE side “Jobu” is an upbeat cosmic jazz funk extravaganza constantly evolving to a fantastic climax. Think ESG meets Arthur Russell meets The Headhunters meets Innerzone Orchestra. We challenge you to categorize this! The NOW side’s “Le Groove de Prune” is a fresh driving afrobeat mover with chants and scats from Hannah and Noel Ekwabi (Manu Dibango’s bass player) plus more horn from Scott and Max! To complete the recipe we have Conti Bilongs’s driving drums and the keyboard wizardry from Afrika Mkhise. There is some serious esp shit going down with this rhythm section; musically they know each other inside-out!
Both the HERE and the NOW side also getting dj support from the likes of Dom Servini from Wah Wah 45s, Tom Wieland from Les Gammas, Chris from Soft Rocks, Faze Action, Yam Who, Shannon Harris, Ok_Ma, Andy Newcombe from Dial Music and Rob Coley from Soul Identity Music!
It is both written, arranged and produced by the very talented Steve Laviers, organizer and resident dj of the Funk4Food parties in London and Paris. These parties have seen such notable guests as Citizen Kane, Qool DJ Marv, The Idjut Boys, Martin Brew, JC from Here and Now Recordings and many more!
